IRL vs Detox

Most of the characters in Detox were loosely based on some friends of mine. Over time I’ve tried to give the characters their own personalities but I do occasionally draw on certain characteristics from the originals. That said, on occasion I am asked if my friends are anything like the characters in the comic. The short answer is yes, and no.

The long answer..

The real Hing does play a lot of computer games. These days its mainly World of Warcraft. He was married to Kwan in November last year. JP still writes code and is pretty darn good at it. He now works for a popular online store. He and Anna are due to be married later this year. Seriously dude. Wes and Kaye had their first child in June. As Wes is very Peter Pan like we think he’ll make a great Dad. Richard still works in computer security for a large Telco. Try to sell him something over the phone I dare you. Mark has not been seen with his long black coat lately. He has however been seen with four young Polish girls in tow. Don’t ask. Ohp gave up permie life and became a contractor. He now travels a fair bit to London. He is still trying to think of ways to start his own company. Ask him about his ray gun idea. Gisky is still coding in his sleep. When he’s not coding he’s flying RC aeroplanes. I haven’t seen monkey in a while. Finally, Emma and I are still together and very happy. Well, she keeps hiding my Tomb Raider and GTA CDs and demanding quality time. I try to point out that Tomb Raider is quality time.
