Poets of the Fall

08-10-2006

Tired of waiting for the third instalment of Max Payne, I re-installed Max Payne 2 and immersed myself in the world of Max. Two pints of vodka and Pepsi Max, and about 7,000 rounds of ammo later and you could consider me pretty well immersed. I’d forgotten how much fun playing FPS games can be. Especially while slightly drunk. You waste so much ammo trying to focus the damn crosshair on the enemy. It took me back to playing FPS games with the guys during our Uni and placement years. Games such as Half Life, Unreal Tournament and Kingpin were our favourites. The latter being the game that JP used to introduce me to Malibu and coke by the pint. A lethal but tasty combination that takes me about 3 pints to get pissed but wont allow you to sleep afterwards. So you just keep on playing and playing and taunting other online players. Come on you f’kers eat lead!

You see, earlier today I’d finished sanding, priming and painting all my downstairs windows only to notice that the gloss paint requires 16 hours to dry and it was by now, 7pm. I couldn’t close my windows without them sticking together! So that’s where you find me, playing Max Payne 2 into the early hours of Sunday morning drinking Vodka and coke by the pint while paint dries. See, it can be fun! The in-game dream sequences became all the more interesting the drunker I became. Man, is this game cool and Mona’s pretty hot too. I was finally able to close my windows a little after 4am.

After a few hours sleep I joined the guys over at the local for Sunday lunch and a beer. Later, back at my place I finished playing Max and while the end credits were rolling I realised that the end music ’Late Goodbye’ was pretty cool. With the internet at the end of my fingertips, I checked out the band’s site and watched their video entitled ‘Carnival of rust’. This is one weird but cool video that I recommend checking out. The music is so good I typed the band name, ‘Poets of the Fall’ into Pandora to listen to more of their music. It looks like I’ve found another band to listen to.

Thanks Max.

Note: The more I watch the Carnival of rust video the more I love it. Its just so.. different. Its mellow, beautifully sung and the music is inspiring. Seriously dudes, check it out.
